George B. Simler (b. 1921, Johnstown, Pa.-d. Sept. 9, 1972), U.S. Air Force officer, received his commission in 1942. Albert W. Schinz (b. 1919, Ottawa, Ill.-d. Jan. 18, 1985), U.S. Air Force officer, entered the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet and completed pilot training in 1940. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater of Operations as pilot, flight commander, operations officer, squadron commander, then deputy group commander with the 41st Fighter Squadron and 475th Fighter Group in New Guinea. Nguyãen Cao Ky was born on September 8, 1930 in Son Tay, Vietnam. He was flight trained by the French, and returned to Vietnam in 1954 to hold a series of commands in the South Vietnamese air force. He was involved in the overthrow of President Diem, and was later appointed to the air force command.
